GrowingMyFamily - Practical Guidance for Building Your Safe Emotional Circle

Hey there, Friend,

After a long fertility, family-building, or parenting journey, many people discover something very meaningful.

Not everyone will truly understand what you went through.

And that is not because others do not care. It is simply because some experiences are deeply personal and cannot be fully translated into words.

In the GrowingMyFamily community, we often talk about the importance of recognizing the people who genuinely hold space for your story without minimizing it, rushing it, or trying to fix it.

These are the people who listen first and speak later. The ones who do not respond to your grief with comparisons or “at least” statements. The ones who can sit beside your experience without turning it into advice or judgment.

It can be deeply healing to intentionally celebrate these people.

You do not need a large gesture.

Sometimes recognition is simple and quiet.

Maybe it is sending a message that says, “Thank you for being someone who really understands me.” Maybe it is spending more time with them. Maybe it is allowing yourself to lean into their presence when you are emotionally tired.

You might also consider identifying who belongs inside your inner emotional circle.

Some people are supportive in general ways but may not be safe spaces for your most vulnerable feelings. That is not a judgment of their character. It is simply an acknowledgment that emotional safety looks different with different people.

Practical ways to honor the people who truly understand can include:

  • Making time to connect intentionally with them
  • Sharing your honest feelings without fear of dismissal
  • Allowing them to support you when you are struggling
  • Expressing gratitude for their presence in your life

You do not need to explain your entire journey to everyone.

The people who truly understand often do not require explanation. They recognize the weight of your experience even in moments when you cannot fully describe it.

It can also help to remember that it is okay if your circle is small.

Quality of emotional connection matters more than quantity.

Having a few people who truly see and support you is more meaningful than having many people who only understand part of your story.

Inside the GrowingMyFamily community, many people share that finding even one person who truly understood their journey changed how alone they felt.

If you are still searching for those people, be patient with yourself.

Meaningful connection sometimes develops slowly.

You are allowed to gravitate toward people who make you feel safe, respected, and emotionally held.

Celebrate the people who truly understand your heart.

And if you have even one of them in your life, take a moment to feel grateful for that connection.

You are not meant to walk this path without understanding and care.

We are here with you.

Always.

Woven Threads: How Parenthood Through Biology and Adoption Shaped Our Hearts for Donor Embryos

The paths to building a family are as varied and intricate as the families themselves. Each journey, with its unique twists and turns, shapes us, teaches us, and expands our hearts in ways we might never have anticipated. My own path to the family I cherish today has been woven with distinct, yet beautifully interconnected threads: first, the experience of biological motherhood, then the profound journey of adopting our three children, welcoming another biological child and later, the path of welcoming our two younger sons through the use of donated embryos. It's this rich tapestry of experiences, particularly the deep lessons learned as an adoptive mom, that I believe uniquely prepared my heart and mind for embracing motherhood again through donor embryos. It wasn't about one path being "better" or "easier," but about how each experience informed the next, deepening our understanding of what family truly means. If you're navigating your own complex path...

Stronger Together: Why Couple's Therapy Can Be Your Anchor on the Infertility Journey

If you're walking the path of infertility as a couple, you know this journey, while fueled by so much shared hope and deep love for each other, also brings its own unique set of conversations, decisions, and emotional landscapes for you to navigate together. You're a team, facing one of life's most profound challenges, and like any great team, sometimes having a skilled, compassionate coach in your corner can make all the difference. That's where couple's therapy comes in. Perhaps you've considered it, or maybe you're already finding it to be a valuable support. Or perhaps the idea feels a bit daunting. Wherever you are, we want to talk openly and warmly about why continuing (or starting!) couple's therapy can be such an incredible anchor, a true source of strength and connection, as you move through the often unpredictable waters of your infertility journey and towards your dream of family. When Fear Gives Way to Family

Hey there friend! Let's talk about how much things can change. If someone had told me nearly fifteen years ago, when our family was just beginning its adoption journey, what our life would look like today, I would have probably laughed. Or cried. Or both. The person I was back then… I almost cringe thinking about her. She thought she knew everything about how to be a good adoptive parent. The truth is, I had no idea. It feels vulnerable to admit that, but maybe you understand. Maybe you’ve had moments on your own journey where you look back at a past version of yourself with a strange mix of embarrassment and compassion. The things I was so sure of then have been quietly, gently replaced over the years. They've been replaced by a deeper understanding—an understanding that came from listening, really listening, to other adoptive parents, and most importantly, to adult adoptees themselves. Their wisdom has been my greatest teacher, showing me what our kids truly need, the importa...
